UPDATED: the more I think about it, alot of the seal locations have been damp for some time. I’ve read that Allroads in colder climates run into issues with the breather system. I’m in a colder location. I’m thinking its the breather system. unless someone objects, I think i’m going to order it tomorrow. do you think with the leaks like this that there has been permanent damage done to all the seals?

dump to follow

with the unfortunate amount of oil leaking from the allroad what are the chances that this could fix all my problems. I noticed that the engine has a slightly deeper sound since the leak started? Could I have high pressure leading to oil being pushed out from all over?

Warning, I have no in depth audi oil knowledge, just asking some things that came to my mind, that may spark an idea.

does the sound change with rpms?

does your car have an oil pressure gauge?

- Any change in sound as the car warms up?

-Could the filter be clogged?

Have you checked the crankcase ventalation valve? is that part of the kit?

“I’ve seen crankcase ventilators 100% clogged, make sure you clean it!”

This guy seemed to have similar problems with oil seals leaking with a clogged pcv

Warning, I have no in depth audi oil knowledge, just asking some things that came to my mind, that may spark an idea. - neither do i. i’m learning as I go.

does the sound change with rpms? no

does your car have an oil pressure gauge? i dont think so.

- Any change in sound as the car warms up? no

-Could the filter be clogged? no, new filter on sunday. When I did the oil pan gasket, i had to drain the oil so I took that opportuity to replace the filter.

Have you checked the crankcase ventalation valve? no. how do you do that

is that part of the kit? i dunno

“I’ve seen crankcase ventilators 100% clogged, make sure you clean it!” this could be a good thing to investigate

This guy seemed to have similar problems with oil seals leaking with a clogged pcv - i’m semi-hoping this is my problem. it seems like an easier / cheaper fix than rear seals and shit. i just hope the damage hasn;t snowballed

googling “allroad crank ventilation hose” seems to bring up the same “spider” hose as shown above.

“paet 2, if this is what my problem is, are all the seals compromised and will the continue to leak?” - I like air-cooled porsches. oil leaks are a fact of life, something to be closely monitored and fixed. I would first make sure the system is good and the cause removed, then worry about long term leaks.

Very common problem. If the diaphragm in there is ruptured it can actually allow full manifold vacuum or boost pressure into the crankcase, which obviously compromises seals since they’re not really intended to deal with pressure, negative or positive.

If your PCV valve was busted leading to pressure build up high enough to push oil out of the engine, there’s a good chance your engine seals are now done for. Find your PCV valve and see if it is clogged. Clean it out with carb cleaner and see if it helps. To check a PCV valve you just shake it. If it rattles you’re gtg.

If the car is making a whistling sound then you have a bad PCV valve. But even if it’s not whistling but running like crap at idle you may have a cracked PCV hose (both the PCV and hoses are the same part you included in your post).

The way to check for a bad PCV is to try and pull the oil cap off while the engine is running. If you can’t get it off then it’s bad. If it does come off easily then you may have a cracked hose, and they crack and break ALL THE TIME.

A bad PCV can cause an oil leak because if it gets bad enough the engine can actually suck the rear main seal in, which will cause the car to leak while off because the seal is not longer seated properly.

A bad PCV can also blow oil out, which may be happening in this case.

I’m really not trying to be rude here I promise. I do have reservations about buying parts somewhat blindly when you are not aware of your car has an oil pressure gauge or not. However, you just successfully dropped and re-installed an oil pan on an Audi, so clearly you are mechanically competent. This is especially true considering that the part in question is $190 dollars, and most independent mechanics will do a diagnostic test for around $100 (at least in Sacramento). If it were me, I would definitely bite the diagnostic cost bullet before dropping that much on a part that is not 100% sure to fix the problem. Best of luck with the issue, and I salute you for owning an Allroad, a feat I am too cowardly to undertake.
